Bone plate is most common used for extremities bone fracture treatment in clinic.Bone plate products are now under development with the evolvement of bone fracturetreatment concept. Biomechanical properties are always the focus of orthopaedics.Previous studies are most on the base of mechanic and biology. Now as the integrationof medicine and mechanical, people begin to do medical study using more and moremechanical methods.The bone plate has the highest incidence of failure in the current clinicalorthopedic products.This paper classified the failure mode according to the clinicalreality. And expatiated the causes of failure in details of operatingtechniques, the patients and the product itself with some testing practice.Starting from the engineering viewpoint,using kinematics, dynamics andinverse dynamics method,this paper analysed the typical behavior of the upper andlower extremity, and got the joint force and muscle force of different activities.On thebasis of these results, this paper focused on two typical humerus and femoral boneplates, doing parametric studies of their typical fracture mode using inverse dynamicsand FEA methods. This study focuses on material properties, tightening torque andtypical activities of extremities, which may be affecting parameters of stressdistribution of the plates and bones. The results show that material properties of boneplates and screws, tightening torque and activities of extremitie are great effects ofstress distribution for both the bone plates and bones. The results of the analysis canprovide reference for product research and development, the operation andpostoperative recovery.In order to study the mechanical properties of plate products, the author conducted many four-point bending static and fatigue tests.Then classified the testresults according to the anticipated regin and got a database.This can providereference for getting knowledge of existing products,comparing different products anddrafting correlating standards...
