Objective: To compare three different neutral oral contrast media for dual-phase 64 MSCT enterography in normal intestine. To prepare theoretical foundation for chosing suitable oral contrast media of CT enterography.Materials and methods: 150 patients without intestinal disease in our hospital were included. In this study,150 patients were blindly divided into three groups (water, milk, mannitol). All patients were underwent contrast enhanced dual-phase MSCT scanning.Three-dimensional reconstruction of the acquired data was done on ADW4.3 work-station. The CT values of each part of the bowel wall and contrast medium in the luminal at venous phase were all measured. Meanwhile, reconstructional images were analyzed by two radiologists who were blinded to the study for the adequacy of small bowel distention, evaluation of the duodenum and ileocaecal junction. All the data were stasti- cally analyzed. Results: 1. The degree of the bowel distention :There was statistically significant difference among the three groups;in each group the ileum distention is the best, the jejunum distention was superior than the duodenum ;2. The evaluation of duodenum and ileocaecal junction :there is stastically significant difference among the three groups 3. The CT value of the intestine wall:there is stastical significant difference in singal aterial or venous phase among the three groups;in each group the duodenum and jejunum CT value were higher than ileum ;there is no stastical significant difference between the duodenum and the jejunum. there is stastical significant difference between the youthful and middle-aged group in milk group ;4. Comparison of CT value between luminal contrast medium and intestine wall in venous phase :milk group show the best contrast effect while the water show the worst. Conclusion: The group of milk show the highest contrast in differentiating luminal and wall of the intestine, the group of mannitol show the best luminal dilation and duodenum and ileocaecal junction manifestation.
