| OBJECTIVE: The aim of the study was to investigate the role of matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2) in nasal polyps and vesicle tissues.SUBJECTS AND METHODS: Nasal polyp specimens were obtained from 10 patients with nasal polyposis during endoscopic sinus surgery. Control nasal mucosal tissues were obtained from the inferior turbinates of 10 patients with non-allergic hypertrophic rhinitis who underwent turbinectomy to relieve nasal obstruction. Vesicle tissues situated ostiomeatal complex (OMC) were obtained from 10 patients with nasal polyposis after endoscopic sinus surgery. Tissue samples were frozen for paraffin wax-embedded for immunofluorescence.MMP-2 mRNA expression was examined by real time RT-PCR. MMP-2 concentrations were analyzed by Western blotting.RESULTS: MMP-2 expression was significantly up-regulated in nasal polyp tissues and vesicle tissues. But there was no significantly difference betweeen NP tissues and vesicle tissues.CONCLUSION: MMP-2 may play an active pathogenic role in nasal polyp formation and vesicle tissues formation. Cleaning vesicle tissues may play a key role in nasal polyp relapsing. |
