SUMMARY:Objective :To evaluate the risks and effects of surgical treatment of sacral chordoma.Methods:15 Patients with sacral chordoma were followed up.We review the clinical data and analysis of the surgical approaches,the reasons and treatment of complications. The clinical and imageological evaluation was performed before and after the operation.Results:The average follow-up is 49 months.Five people had died within 5 years after the operation(33.3%),another one case had died in 2 hours after the operation.The tumor was recurred in 6 patients in 3 years after the operation(49%).The dysfunction of bladder occurred in 4 patients whereas none has rectal injury.The symptom of 13 patients in 15 patients has been relieved or disappeared.Conclusion:Primary and recurred sacral chordoma with good general conditions can be treatment by surgery.Postoperative recurrence is related to incomplete removal of tumor.Surgery can get good result,the surgical treatments are satisfied,it can prolong the lives and improve the quality of life,relieve the pain and symptoms,...
