Objiective To study the correlation of the expression tendency of GST-πin brain tissue and peripheral blood of pilocarpine refractory rat models. Methods The model group was established by injection of pilocarpine and lithium chloride, then divided into saline control group(n=10), drug-responsive group(n=22) and drug-resistant group(n=15)according to the reactivity to anti-epileptic drug. GST-πexpression in brain tissue was studied by immunohistochemistry. Westernblot was also used to analyse the expression of GST-πin peripheral blood. Results In the hippocampal formation, GST-πwas mainly found in the cytoplasm and membrane of neurons and was expressed higher in non-responders than responders and saline control group(P<0.01). There was no significant difference between responders and saline control group(P>0.05). The expression tendency of GST-πin peripheral blood was the same. Conclusions It suggested that GST-πmight contribute to drug resistance in epilepsy. The overexpression of GST-πin peripheral blood could be considered as an objective marker of drug resistance in brain tissues of epilepsy patient.
