Objective Disc degeneration is one of the important causes of low backpain,and which is a complex physiological process,its mechanism have not yet been fully clarified.The test is to determine the involvement of pathomeehanism of intervertebral disc degeneration by monitoring the inununohistoehemieally of MMP-1and TIMP-1 in nucleus pulposus cells of intervertebral disc degeneration.Methods Immunohistochemistry assay were used to detect the expression of MMP-1and TIMP-1 in Nucleus pulposus cells in 40 cases.From 2009 to 2010 , 25 cases with lumber disc herniation and 15 cases of thoracic-lumber broken were choosen.Results The expression of MMP-1 in degenerated discs was higher than the normal discs(P<0.01).The expression of TIMP-1 in in degenerated discs was higher than the normal discs (P<0.01).In the degenerative disc cell exhibited positive staining for MMP-1 is much higher than for TIMP-1.The balance of TIMP-1/MMP-1 is broken.Conclusions MMP-1 and TIMP-1 may be invovled in the pathogenesy of disc degeneration, they are very important in disc degeneration.The mechanism of MMPs and TIMPs in the future study may find out the reason of disc degeneration which will provide new treatment for lumber disc protrusion disease.
