Purpose:The Chinese medicine is traditional medicinal resources.As some same family has the similar composition and efficiency.The adulterant often replaced quality product. The subject using UV-vis, UV Derivative spectrophotometry and IR applied to establish the fingerprints of the Rhubarb and its different polarity. Using these means to analysis the difference between the Rhubarb and Patience dock root. This subject aimed at proving the motheds above are feasible ways to identify the Rhubarb and the adulterant, and provide a scientific and reliable basis for the Rhubarb and the adulterant.Method: Work out and compared the first and the second UV Derivative spectrum of Rhubarb; selected the fine polarity and the suitable method of establishing fingerprints.compared the ultraviolet fingerprint of the Rhubarb and Patience dock root. Do the similarity analysis and cluster analysis about the IR fingerprints of the Rhubarb and the Patience dock root.Result: The extracts of petroleum ether has the most characteristics in the spectrum of UV, the first and the second UV Derivative. It shows that the spectral of the second Derivative has more characteristic peak.The structure of spectral is a more fine spectral of the Rhubarb and Patience dock root. The IR provided rich information of chemical.The cluster analysis classified the two classes about he Rhubarb and Patience dock root. Although 10 batches of Rhubarb have different sources ,it have a high similarity. The correlation coefficient above 0.95.10 batches of the Rhubarb resolved 2 sorts in cluster analysis. The correlation coefficient(the Rhubarb and the Patience dock root)between 0.78-0.88.It shows the two samples have a huge difference.Conclusion: This task study through UV spectrophotometry of the Rhubarb. It proves that the UV Derivative and the IR could be used in identification of medicinal materials such as the Rhubarb and Patience dock root. The second Derivative spectrum has a outstanding advancement in rich spectral information. The IR spectrum reflect much whole characteristic of Rhubarb and the Patience dock root ,it is a feasible way to identify the Rhubarb and the adulterant.So combined with the two spectrum technology has a good effect about the identification of the Rhubarb and Patience dock root. The research provide a scientific and reliable basis for identification ,quality standard and evaluation of Rhubarb and the adulterant.
