| Purpose:Viral pneumonia in children become more and more prevalent. To systematically evaluate the clinical effects of Maxing Shigan Decocion(MXSGD) or its active constituent, on viral pneumonia in children of China.Material and method:In this study, we searched the. following electronic databases:CBM disc, Chinese Journal Full-text Database, Chongqing Weipu Database, Wanfang Database; handsearch was applied in Journal of Chinese traditional medicine。The data were analyzed using the Cochrane Collaboration's RevMan 5.1 Software.Results:1. total of 181 reports were found, while only 9 RCTs met the inclusion criteria. The methodological quality of trails was assessed by the Jadad-scale. Only 3 RCTs' methodological quality were high.2. As MXSGD (treatment group) was compared with control group, the meta-analysis indicated that Risk ratio (RR) for the total effective rate was 0.99 and the 95% CI was from 0.95 to 1.03; the weighted mean difference (WMD) in disappearance time of fever between the two groups was 0.19, and 95% CI was from -0.08 to 0.47; WMD in disappearance time of wheezing between the two groups was 0.00, and 95% CI was from -1.53 to 1.53; WMD in disappearance time of rales between the two groups was 0.53, and 95% CT was from -1.88 to 2.95; RR between the two groups in absorption of chest X-ray shadow was 1.06, and 95% CI was from 0.85 to 1.31; WMD in time of hospitalization between the two groups was -1.99, and 95% CI was from-2.63～-1.35]. In spite of the disappearance time of fever and rales, the differences were statistically significant.Conclusion:1. The effect of MXSGD and its active constituent is no better than Ribavirin on cure rate, the symptoms of cough and wheezing, the absorption of chest X-ray shadow.2. MXSGD could shorten the hospitalization time, without significant adverse reactions. While further more high-quality trials are necessary, MXSGD in the treatment of viral pneumonia in children should be evaluated by more rigorously designed. |
