Objective To evaluate clinical effects of dynamic hip screw (DHS) and dynamic condylar screw (DCS) in treatment of intertrochanteric fracture of femur . Methods We reviewed 136 patients who had been treated for intertrochanteric fractures with DHS or DCS between January 2007 and December 2009 in our hospital,99 of them were treated with DHS,37 with DCS,because the fracture of trochanteric or the lateral wall is weak,22of the 99 cases use DHS combine trochanter supporting plate(TSP).The effect of the fixation method was evaluated from:operating time blood loss, complications, length of stay, fracture healing and function recovery. Results The mean follow-up time was 16 months, except three cases in DHS and two in DCS who failed because of internal fixation loosing or breaking and three died in DHS three months after operation, all the patients were healed successfully. The recovery of hip function after operation were satisfactory, the excellent and good result rate was 88.5% in DHS group, and 86.5% in DCS.Conclusions With DHS and DCS,nearly all types of intertrochanteric fractures can be successfully treated. For type A1 and A2.1,DHS is the best select, for part of A2.2, DHS is applicable, and for type A2.3 and A3 should select DCS.If the lateral wall is weak or incomplete,DCS should be used,or use DHS combining TSP as fixation.
