Eczema is a form of dermatitis with obvious exudation due to various internal and external causes. Eczema is one of the common diseases and frequent-occuring disease with multiformity, polymorphism and severe itching and it is stubborn and easy to relapse. Its main character is blistering and oozing. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) considers endo retention of damp heat as the main cause and eliminating heat and removing dampness is the foundmental and radical treatment. Existed prescription with changes is given by internal treatment after analyzing the disease and safe, effective and appropriate preparation formation is given by external treatment. Treatment methods in TCM and western medicine are different:antihistamines are taken orally and hormone drugs are given by external administration by western medicine and the disease is easy to relapse after drug withdrawal and many adverse effects will emerge after long-time use of hormone drugs; TCM focuses on treatment with syndrome differentiation and gives prescription with changes and it may reduce the adverse effects due to administration and drug withdrawal, improve treatment effects and reduce relapse rate. My tutor is experienced on the clinical treatment of eczema and treats various eczemas by prescription with changes via treatment with syndrome differentiation with obvious clinical effects.Purpose:To clinically study and observe the treatment effects of kuhuangxieshitang on damp heat eczema diagnosed by TCM and acute eczema diagnosed by western medicine and compare the effect and safety of kuhuangxieshitang on treating damp heat eczema with cetirizine (antihistamines).Method:Randomized controlled method was applied in this study. All cases were from dermatology out-patient department of affiliated hospital of Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.30 cases in treatment group were given kuhuangxieshitang with changes (twice a day) when it is damp heat eczema by syndrome differentiation while 25 cases in control group were given cetirizine orally (once a day). Then observe the improvement of skin lesions and itching.Result:55 cases with damp heat eczema were included in this study. There were 30 cases in treatment group with 3 cases cured (10%),16 cases apparent recorved (54%),7 cases with effective recorved (23%) and 15 cases with invalid treatment (13%) and the total effective rate was 64% while 25 cases in control group with those cases numbers of 1 (4%),4 (16%),15 (60%) and 5 (20%) and the total effective rate was 20%. The difference was not statistically significant (P>0.05) and the disease scores before and after treatment was not significantly different (P>0.05). This has suggested that the treatment effect in treatment group and control group was similar. However, the improvement of skin lesions and itching in treatment group was obviously better than that in control group after 8 weeks'treatment (P<0.05).Significance:The effect of kuhuangxieshitang on treating damp heat eczema is sure and with obvious effects. It has improved main clinical syptoms.
