A Comparative Effectiveness Study Of Acupuncture Therapy Combined With Herb On Vascular Dementia's Treatment

Objective:To observe the difference of therapeutic efficacy of the three methods in the treatment of Vascular Dementia,and choose the best treatment.Methods:In this study,48 patients of VD were randomly divided into three groups for o-bservation:the treatment group,the group of acupuncture and drug group(N=15).Treatmen t group:"YiQiTiaoXue,FuBenPeiYuan" acupuncture therapy combined with HuangDi pow-der,shanzhong,zhongwan,qihai,xuehai,zusanli,waiguan are selected as the main points;Acupu-ncture group:"YiQiTiaoXue,FuBenPeiYuan"acupuncture therapy;Drug group:donepezil;thr-ee groups were treated with inpatient routine therapies.Their therapeutical effects were co-mpared after 12 weeks by MMSE and ADL.Result:(1) In the cognitive function, the three groups'total effective rate were 93.3%,86. 7% 78.6%,the difference had no statistical significance(P>0.05);before and after treatment the scores of MMSE had improved(P<0.01);after treatmentthe scores of treatment group compared with acupuncture group and drug group is significantly increased (P<0.05);the difference of acupuncture group and drug group had no statistical significance(P>0.05).In the improvement of all items,before and after treatment the scores of orientation,memory and calculation are significantly increased (P<0.05),the improvement of languages had stat-istical significance in treatment group and acupuncture group(P<0.05);the scores of visual trabecular spaces ability had no statistical significance(P>0.05);after the treatment,the score-s of orientation and memory in treatment group had significantly inereased(P<0.01),comp-ared with acupuncture group and drug group;the scores of calculation,languages and vis ual trabecular spaces ability had no statistical significance(P>0.05) in the three groups.(2) In the acticities of daily living,the three groups'total effective ratewere 86.7%,7 3.3%,66.7%,the difference had no statistical significance(P>0.05);before and after treatme nt the scores of ADL had reduced(P<0.01); after treatment,the scores of treatment group compared with acupuncture group and drug group is significantly increased (P<0.05); the difference of acupuncture group and drug group had no statistical significance(P>0.05). In the improvement of all items, before and after treatment the scores of PSMS and IADL are significantly increased (P<0.01),the scores of PSMS in treatment group had significant-ly inereased(P<0.05),compared with acupuncture group and drug group;the scores of IA-DL had no statistical significance(P>0.05) in the three groups.Conclusion:"YiQiTiaoXue,FuBenPeiYuan"acupuncture therapy combined with HuangDi powder on treating vaseular dementia had clinical therapeutical effect without question,can improvethe patients'cognitive function,especially are orientation,memory and calculation; and improve the patients'acticities of daily living,especially is PSMS,so then improve the-ir quality of life.And we can derive that "YiQiTiaoXue,FuBenPeiYuan"acupuncture ther-apy which improve the cognitive function and acticities of daily living is similar to don-epezil,avoid of the mendicine's side effect,and the price is cheaper,so it is worthy to be popularized in clinic.
