Comparation Of The Effect Between Brilliant Blue G And Indocyanine Gren Assisted Internal Limiting Membrane Staining For Idiopathic Macular Hole

ObjectiveComparation of the effect between brilliant blue G and indocyanine green assisted internal limiting membrane staining for idiopathic macular hole.Materials snd MethodsForty four patients (46 eyes) (from January,2009 to October,2010) with IMH (stageⅢor stageⅥ) who underwent pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) followed by BBG-or ICG assisted ILM peeling were included in this retrospective study.Patients with IMH (stage I or stageⅡ) and patients complicated with cataract after surgery were exclued.Twenty eyes underwent 0.25% BBG-assisted and 26 eyes 0.25% ICG-assisted ILM peeling.Main outcome measure was the chromaticity difference between the stained ILM,rate of anatomical hole closure,and best corrected visual acuity (BCVA).ResultsThere was no difference in ages of patients and BCVA between two groups before operation (p>0.05).ILMs were stained well by BBG (100%) or ICG (100%) and the staining was sufficient to safely remove the ILMs in all cases (100%).We observed a "light blue" staining of the ILM after injection of BBG and a "light green" staining of ICG.The latter has a better visibility.All macular holes closed after sugery except one in ICG-assisted group.There was no difference in rate of macular hole closure between two groups (p=0.926)(p>0.05).There was no difference in visual improvement between two groups before operation(p> 0.05). Visual improvement was 0.46±0.08 (LogMAR) in BBG-assisted group and 0.45±0.05 (LogMAR) in ICG-assisted group (p=0.098).There were no serious complications in all patients. ConclusionThe staining of ILM by both 0.25% BBG and 0.25% ICG is well enough to peel the ILMs safely in patients with IMH,though the former yields a less well-visibility.
