AIM:To compare the difference of chemical composition, toxicity, anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect between FAA and its processed products, study the processing technology for Folium Artemisia argyi, study the principle of FAA stir-baked with vinegar.METHORDS:We extract the volatile oil, flavonoids, tannins and the polar extracts and compare the difference of chemical composition between FAA and its processed products using HPLC, TLC, GC-MS and UV. Choosing traditional outward appearance and content of total flavonoids as indicators, the best processing technology of FAA was ascertained by using orthogonal design method. We also study the anti-inflammatory effects of FAA and the processed products using mouse ear edema, granuloma method in rats and level of IL-Iβin serum and study the analgesic effect of FAA and the processing products using mouse writhing and tail flick method.RESULTS:The composition and content of the chemical components were changed significantly after FAA was processed. Essential oil and methanol parts were not only toxic parts, but also anti-inflammatory and analgesic parts of FAA. The toxicity of FAA reduced and the efficacy enhanced significantly after processing with vinegar.CONCLUSION:The anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect of FAA processed with vinegar were more significant than FAA and other processed products, which result from preparing with heating and vinegar at the same time.
