The Survey Of Internship Nurse Abuse In Hunan Province And It's Relationship With Anxiety And Depression

Objective:To investigate the status of abuse in clinical clerkships nurses in Hunan province, and discuss the relationship between internship nurses abuse and depression or anxiety in abused students.Method:With delaminating-random-group sampling,455 internship nurses from 6 teaching hospitals in Hunan province were rated with Demographic Data Recording Form, Medical Student Intern Events Questionnaire, Self-rating Depression Scale and Self-rating Anxiaty Scale to assess. Statistic analysis methods included statistic description, Pearson correlation analysis, Kruskal-Wallis H analysis and Nemenyi analysis.Result:Of the 455 students surveyed,436 questionnaires were available, and 358 (82.11%) students reported at least one instance of abuse.In all five types of medical student abuse, verbal abuse (n=283, 79.05%) was the most common type of medical student abuse, followed by academic abuse (n=241,67.32%), sexual harassment(n=124,34.64%), gender discrimination (n=91,25.42%), and physical abuse (n=62, 17.32%).Patients(45%) were identified the most frequently as the sources of perpetrators, followed by nurse(20.98%), others(13.34%), chief physician or professor(11.91%), attending physician(8.32%), technician(6.43%), resident physician(5.01%), peers(5.14%) and service personnel(3.41%).The department of internal medicine(26.81%) was reported the most common abusive site, followed by surgical department(25.92%), department of pediatrics (23.68%), others(19.51%), emergency department(11.52%), infection department 11.03%), obstetric and gynecologic department (9.43%) and anaesthesiology department (6.72%).Kruskal-Wallis H test showed that self-rating anxiety scale scores among verbal abuse groups(χ2=36.30, P=0.00), physical abuse groups(χ2=42.29, P=0.00), numbers of abuse type groups(χ2=21.67, P =0.00), academic abuse groups (χ2=55.82, P=0.00) and sexual harassment groups (χ2=21.67, P=0.00) were significant;the self-rating depression scale scores among verbal abuse groups(χ2=18.83, P=0.00), physical abuse groups(χ2=37.03, P=0.00), numbers of abuse type groups(χ2=8.40, P=0.02), academic abuse groups (χ2=49.19, P=0.00) and sexual harassment groups (χ2=25.55, P=0.00) were significant;Nemenyi test showed that in verbal abuse groups, the self-rating anxiety scale score of group 3 was higher than that of group 1 and group 2; In physical abuse groups, the self-rating anxiety scale score of group 2 was higher than that of group 1; In numbers of abuse type groups, the self-rating anxiety scale score of group 2 and group 3 were higher than that of group 1; In academic abuse groups, the self-rating anxiety scale score of group 3 and group 4 were higher than that of group 1; And in sexual harassment groups, the self-rating anxiety score of group 4 was higher than that of group 1.In academic abuse groups, the self-rating depression scale score of group 1 was higher than that of group 3; In physical abuse groups and numbers of abuse type groups, the self-rating depression scale score of group 1 was higher than that of group 2 and group 3; In academic abuse groups, the self-rating depression scale score of group 1 was higher than that of group 3 and group 4, group 2 was higher than group 3, group 3 was higher than group 4; and in sexual harassment groups, the self-rating depression scale score of group 1 and group 2 were higher than that of group 3 and group 4.Conclusion:The phenomenon of nursing student abuse is common in Hunan province. Verbal abuse, abuse from patients, abuse occur in internal medicine department are the most popular. Verbal abuse, physical abuse, academic abuse and sexual harassment have relations to depression and anxiety symptom of the internship nurses.
