Cassava is the primary tropical crops in our country which has become one of the seven primary kind crops in the world and annual output has been more than one hundred million tons. Cassava root is the most important part which has plenty of starch. Cassava can not only serve as human food, but also excellently feed to cattle in agricultural; it can be used to make ethanol, starch, etc. in industrial, in the mean while, cassava can also provides a great quantity of raw material for new biological energy, to supply energy shortage of oil.Because of the complexity of the soil and the cassava roots distribution, and the roots brittleness, the roots are easy to be broken when harvesting, thus are high technology requirements to realize mechanical cassava harvesting. The level of cassava mechanical harvesting in our country is lower at present. The main harvesting method is manpower, because there is no practical machine. Though some kinds of machines have worked in field, there are many problems, such as, roots is easy to be broken, energy efficiency is high when digging up soil and the digging shovel cutting into the soil is difficult and so on. In the view of these problems, a new type of cassava equipment—ar-type digging shovel has been designed, which combined with analysis of the domestic and foreign cassava harvester and other root tuber harvester. The design process is as follows:1) Cassava biological and environment properties that including planting method, root physical properties etc. have been researched. And some significant factors that impacting on design parameters of digging shovel have been analyzed;2) The mechanical properties-parameters of soil has been analyzed; and the mathematical model of tractive force including soil cohesion, cohesive force, resistance of soil, water content and so on has been established; then the blade angle, the working width and the digging depth of the digging shovel were preliminary protocoled;3) Through analyzing of working principle and dynamic the digging shovel, and based on the mathematical model, the relationship of the geometric parameters and the machine forward speed that impacting on the traction force has been established. The relationship diagrams have been plotted.4) The statics of digging shovel has been analyzed by using the Abaqus software. Through shoveling the stress and strain distribution map of the diggging shovel the strength of the shovel has been checked. Through the analyzing of the parameters optimization, the best digging shovel parameters were got. The parameters are as follow:the blade angle is20°, length of shovel is550mm, working width is1000mm, the digging depth is30cm. It was proved that the bar-style digging shovel has good working performance by the experiment. The digger shovel was easy to cutting into soil, crushing soil and reducing blocking and hilling soil effectively. This study has laid the foundation for the further study of digging-pull cassava harvester.
