| MADS-box genes play an essential role in plant growth and development. Theregulatory mechanisms of spatial and temporal specific expression of MADS-boxgenes and the function of MADS-box genes in other biological processes are still tobe further study. OsMADS1gene is one of MADS-box gene family. Ectopicexpression of OsMADS1in rice results in dwarfism. Additionally, in spikelets, the outredimentary glumes are transformed to lemmal/palea-like organs. To furtherinvestigate the role of OsMADS1during rice flower development, In this study, wegenerated transgenic rice plants expressing altered OsMADS1genes that containmissense mutations in the MADS domain by Site Directed Mutagenesis. Spikeletsanalysis showed that transgenic plants presented serious dwarfism and floral organsby different influences, such as elongated lemmal and palea; the number of stameninduced and transformed to lodcule; the number of pistil increase and arise two stigma;the number of lodicule changed and transformed to leaf-like or lemma/palea-likeorgand. Our anaylsised expression level of MADS-box genes involved in flowerdevelopment by real-time PCR in transgenic plants. Based on morphological variationand the result of expression analysis, our considered that OsMADS1play an importantrole in the development of lemma and palea,and more inclined to characteristics of thelemma specialized, and non MADS-box gene OPB maybe play a role in regulatingplant height or the height related genes. |
