Recently, extreme climate events occurred frequently, how to cope with the impacts of climate change have became the focus of interdisciplinary research. Climate change will have a significant influence on agricultural production, extreme climate events will also impact on food security, and Hani terraced fields has caused a wide public concern for it's success to cope with the extreme drought in the southwestern of China. Based on the field study in Hani terraced fields of Ailao Mountains, Yunnan Province, this article analyzed the mechanism of Hani terraced field complex ecosystem adapt to extreme drought, discussed the special role that traditional knowledge related to Hani ethnic group plays in adapting to extreme drought. The results show that:(1) Natural and human being's factors may jointly take effect on adaptation to extreme drought of Hani terraced fields;(2) Complete ecosystem, highly efficient utilization and management of water resources and effective protection and management of forest are the critical factors for Hani terraceed fields to cope with extreme drought;(3) Traditional knowledge related to Hani ethnic group played an important role in the process of copeing with extreme climate. Related studies devoted to Hani terraced fields in coping with extreme drought has valuable reference to the construction of global eco-agriculture and stabilize the agriculture production in the context of climate change. Furthermore, research of the unique role of traditional knowledge of minorities led by Hani ethnic group in coping with extreme drought events will confer positive significance in steering minority regions adapt to climate change effectively, so as to facilitate the preservation and heritage of minorities'traditional knowledge.Forest is one of the key factors for Hani terraced fields adapt to extreme drought, and the healthy and orderly development of forestry resources is an important precondition for the sustainable development of Hani terraced fields. Based on the data of forestry resources of Yuanyang County, combining field survey and statistical analysis, this paper selected forest coverage, unit stock volume, ecological forest area and Shannon-wiener index as the mian factors to analyze the forestry resources status of Yuanyang County. Meanwhile, the methods of principal component ananlysis and hierarchical cluster ananlysis were used in forestry division. According to the statistics of the subdivisions' state, we advanced the direction of forestry development.The results show that:(1) The forest resources of Yuanyang County has been observably improved.The area of woodland increased32%from1985to2005, and most of that was forest land. The growth rate of forest coverage, woodland area and unit stock volume were53.56%,28.97%and69.67%from1985to2005;(2) In general, the forestry resources of eastern region is better than that of western region. The forest coverage of eastern region is higher than that of western region, so is unit stock volume, the general trend of ecological forest area is east>west>central, and the general trend of tree species diversity is northwest>northeast>southwest>southeast;(3) The main factors affecting the forestry development of Yuanyang County are proportion of ecological forest area, GDP per capita, forestland area per capita and land area;(4) The forestry division of Yuanyang County can be divided into four areas. The relative dominant subdivisions were distinguished reasonably, and a specific direction of forestry development was given, this results should provide references to the sustainable development of Hani terraced fields.
