In this paper,the effect of deicing salt on the physiological characteristics of fourKentucky bluegrasses seed during germination were studied, the results were asfollows:1. With the deicing salt concentration increased, the potential germination of Bluechip was increasing–reducing, the potential germination of the three others weredescended. With the deicing salt concentration increased, the germination rate,germination index, vigor index of four Kentucky bluegrasses were descended, ratio ofrelative salt injury were raised. At the same treatment concentration of deicing salt, thegermination rate, germination index, potential germination, vigor index of Euromythwere higher than the three others, ratio of relative salt injury of Euromyth was lowerthan the three others.With the deicing salt concentration increased, the shoot length and root length offour Kentucky bluegrasses were descended.2. With the deicing salt concentration increased, the soluble sugar contents of Parkand Euromyth were descended, the soluble sugar contents of Blue chip and Merit wereincreasing–reducing, the activity of amylase of four Kentucky bluegrasses weredescended. At the same concentration of deicing salt, the amylase of Euromyth washigher than the three others, the descent rate of the soluble sugar contents and theactivity of amylase of Euromyth were lower than the three others.With the deicing salt concentration increased, the soluble protein contents of Parkand Euromyth were descended, the soluble protein contents of Blue chip and Meritwere increasing–reducing. At the same concentration of deicing salt, the solubleprotein content of Euromyth was higher than the three others.With the deicing salt concentration increased, the proline contents of fourKentucky bluegrasses were raised. At the same treatment concentration of deicing salt,the proline content of Euromyth was higher than the three others Kentuckybluegrasses. The results showed that Euromyth has stronger osmotic adjustment ability.3. With the deicing salt concentration increased, the respiration rate and thecyanide-resistant respiration rate of Park and Euromyth were descended, therespiration rate and the cyanide-resistant respiration rate of Blue chip and Merit wereincreasing–reducing. At the same concentration of deicing salt, the respiration rate andthe cyanide-resistant respiration rate of Euromyth were higher than the three others.4. With the concentration of deicing salt increased, when the free radicals of fourKentucky bluegrasses increased, the three protective enzymes were made a positive intheir own ways. The SOD activity of Euromyth was increasing–reducing, the SODactivities of Park, Blue chip and were descended. The POD activity of Park, Euromyth,Blue chip were increasing–reducing, the POD activities of Merit was descended. TheCAT activity of Park was descended, the Blue chip, Euromyth and Merit wereincreasing–reducing.When the concentration of deicing salt was lower than3g·L-1, with theconcentration of deicing salt increased, the SOD,POD,CAT activities of Euromythwere higher than the three others. When the concentration of deicing salt was higherthan3g·L-1, with the concentration of deicing salt increased, although the PODactivities of Euromyth was lower than Blue chip, the SOD,POD activities ofEuromyth were higher than the two others. It is indicated that has a strong scavengingof O2.-and H2O2when the deicing salt stress, suggesting that Euromyth resist thedeicing salt was higher than the three others.In summary, on the one hand, when the concentration of deicing salt was lowerthan3g·L-1, the damages to the four Kentucky bluegrass were smaller, when theconcentration of deicing salt was higher than3g·L-1, the four Kentucky bluegrass werecaused varying degrees of damage, even inhibit seeds germination. On the other hand,at the same concentration of deicing salt, compared to the three others, Euromythshowed a strong resistance to the deicing salt. Suggested that at the areas where usedeicing salt frequently, planted the plants which like Euromyth have a stronganti-deicing capability, and strictly control the amount of the deicing salt, made theadverse effects on plants to minimize.
