Introduction experiment and superior families selection of Eucalyptus Saligna were relatively systemically reported in this paper based on the 42 families test forest of Eucalyptus Saligna which were established at Yong an National Forest Farm of Sanming, Fujian Province in spring,2002. Based on the data of growth traits, form and quality traits and adaptability traits that were collected systemically during from 2003 to 2005, the genetic variations and correlations of growth traits, wood basic density, rate of red wood, form and quality traits and adaptability traits among Eucalyptus Saligna families were studied. The results showed there were very significant differences among families in growth traits including height, DBH and stem volume; some differences in wood basic density, relatively large differences in rate of red wood, little differences in position of wood core, some large differences in form traits including straightness, branch and bole of stem. Based on the correlative analysis, the correlations of growth traits between different years were plus or very plus close, the correlations between growth traits and wood basic density or rate of red wood were plus or very plus close but the correlations between growth traits and position of wood core were very minus close, and the correlations between growth traits and form traits or adaptability traits were some, plus or very plus close. According to the synthetically analysis based on the data of growth traits collected in 2005,10 superior families with good performance in growth were selected from 42 families, genetic gains of tree height, DBH, stem volume were 2.81%,3.35% and 21.03% respectively. According to the synthetically analysis based on the data of form and quality traits collected in August,2006 and the data of growth traits collected in 2005,9 superior families with good performance in growth, wood basic density and rate of red wood were selected from 42 families, the average of rate of red wood was up to 20.09%. According to the synthetically analysis on growth traits, form and quality traits and adaptability,60 superior individuals with good performance in growth, form and quality traits and adaptability were selected from 1344 individuals. The selected superior individuals and families could be used as parents of cross-breeding, materials of seed orchard and mass propagation.
