Saline-alkali soil improvement and afforestation can not only improve the ecological environment but also creat economic benefits,however this work can't take up farmland. Insistent ting improving and greening the saline-alkali soil is an important guarantee for preserving farmland, the primary means of promoting efficient use of land, the important measure for promoting development of agriculture and countryside, the effective means for promoting increasing in agricultural efficiency and increasing rural incomes. With the depth discussion about rational use of land, comprehensive development and utilization of land had become a new topic of deepening land management, which is worthy of researching in practice. Taking the Weifang Binhai Economic Development Zone for example, this paper studied the saline-alkali soil improvement and afforestation in Weifang coastal area, discussed the theory and practice, systematically illustrated the saline-alkali soil improvement and afforestation mode, brang up reasonable comprehensive utilization measures for saline-alkali soil improvement and afforestation in Weifang coastal area.In this paper we studied the soil improvement and afforestation for four saline-alkali land site types on Binhai Development Zone in Weifang.The main conclusions were:The four site types was all saline-alkali,this is the common constraints for afforestation.However,there are many differents among the four site typest:On southern irrigation district the site type was light soil salinization, high groundwater level and poor drainage. So in rainy season waterlogging and anti-salt easily occurred and seedling was hazarded. The middle arid region was moderate saline-alkali land, low groundwater level and more drought. Water relationship was a significant factor for seedlings. The northern region was severe saline-alkali soil, although the salt content in the top soil had reduced to a certain extent but the middle and lower soil was severe salinity. In city and light industry area, the site condition was more complicated. Urban landscaping mainly processed along roads,there are drainage channels or pipe by roads and the groundwater level was higher.According the principle of adaptation to local conditions, we must adopt the following measures while improving soil and afforesting:On southern irrigation district soil must be improved. Main measures contains digging drainage channels and elevation of land. Selecting saline-alkali tolerant essences and appropriate season and weather is more important. On middle arid region afforestation needs saline-alkali tolerant and drought-resistant essences. Also we should develop water-saving techniques and Loosen the soil preservation of soil moisture. On northern region we should improve soil gradually. Main measures contains saline-alkali tolerant plants and shallow-rooted grass or shrubs. Using these measures the severe saline-alkali soil can be improved to a certain degree,then the arber plants can be planted. In city and light industry area, soil must be replaced by mellow soil and anti-seepage treatmented before planting seedlings.After greening project ending up, adapted to local conditions supporting measures must be carried out, which taked more positive effects to maintenance afforestation results.
