| The exploitation and utilization of Non-timber Forest Products (NTFP) is new growth point for increasing Households'incomes and rural economy development. Hickory is one of important NTFPs. Based on the development of land management system reform, the activity of farmers for hickory management improved, the area and output of hickory increased rapidly, more hickory processing enterprises found and hickory market expanded gradually. But the new challenges also appeared in production potential of hickory. So, it's necessary to study the production potential of hickory, find the possibility way to tap potentialities and give the suggestions of increasing hickory production potential.This paper makes the Tian Mu Mountain as research object, based on the investigation,analysis on development process and its agents, and the possibility of taping hickory production potential through the per unit area yield and hickory plantation area, finally, it gives the strategies for hickory production potential increased. The conclusions are as following:(1) There are three stages for hickory industry: before 1988, 1989-2002 and after 2003, and the agents are profoundly manifested in the aspects of policy, technology, market, organization.(2) Based on the perspective of households, the hickory development is mainly in the first industry. The main factors affect the production potential of hickory are hickory yield per unit area and hickory plantation area.(3) The Cobb-Douglas production function is used to model hickory input and output function. The result shows that the farmer fertilizer inputs, new afforestation which is planted on sparse woodlot, other capital input(pesticide, herbicide) have significant effect on hickory yield level, farmers work-days input, modes of hickory management, new afforestation which is planted on bare ground have no significant effect on hickory per yield.. Fertilizer and labor inputs has no economic yield in improving hickory yield, only modestly increasing pesticide and herbicide can increase the hickory yield per unit area. But pesticide and herbicide are mainly used as pest prevention and control, can not fundamentally increase pecan yield.4) Take Lin'an as an example, using sensing technology to extract the spatial distribution and dynamic change, combining the expert knowledge, forecast hickory potential spatial distribution and expansion by the GIS spatial analysis method. The result shows that increasing hickory plantation area has great potential, and then analyzes the possible influence factors of hickory potential area: the law, policies and local government planning; forestry ecological environment; hickory relatively benefit.5) Strategies of the production potential promotion are as following, intensive strategy-continued improve hickory unit area benefit; extensive strategy-orderly expand hickory plantation; comprehensive strategy -multi participation of the government, scientific and technical personnel and households. |
