Purebred dogs are high in genetic disease, most of the domesticcompanion dogs don't have clear family map. It is hard to diagnose andfeed based on breed specifications. Judging the dog breed from appearanceis not enough, this study try to identify the dog breed based on STRgenotype. The study is based on the65locus STR genotype provided by US doggenome project. The dogs are AKC registered dogs. We selected39common breed in domestic companion dog market and analyze the breedidentification accuracy by means of allele frequency, Bayesian and geneticdistance method. We also use the structure to analyze the pure breedidentification possibility. In order to select a minimum set of locus toachieve similar result we sequence the locus with genetic heterozygosity. We also verify this method by applying the dataset to test15individuals oflocal sampled dog. Most dog breeds clustered as a unique population. The result showed that with all65locus,92.1%individuals arecorrectly assigned to their origin breed by frequency based method, thisfigure is97.7%in Bayesian method and71.7%in genetic distance method. The add-in result showed with the top10heterozygosity locus added theaccuracy rise rapidly, after25locus the rise is steady. This means aminimum set of locus is possible to achieve similar discriminationaccuracy. The verification test showed all dogs can be correctly assigned andsome breeds showed high level of unique population structure. Thisshowed the breed identification based on STR genotype is feasible.
