Setaria italica.Beauv(foxtail millet) is one of the main grain crops in china, and also is staple food crops in another country. Millet have powerful drought resistance, adaptability in there place that lacked the water. It have a obvious heterosis in millet and it can be more yield 20%-40% than conventional breed. At present, high male sterility lines, photoperiod-sensitive male sterility lines and dominance nuclear materials is the prime way in millet heterosis in china. If we do not deal with these problems, it will difficult to use in millet .SQ-1 is one of a new efficient Chemical Hybridizing Agent(CHA) in wheat heterosis, it compounded by factory and made in china, after several years practice, experiments or tests, It can made 95%-100% male sterility and 85% fruit setting rate of natural pollination in wheat, but have not side effect The heterosis of wheat by CHA had expanded used in production. Like millet, it have a big propagation coefficient if we can achieve the heterosis through the CHA and cultivated a new breed which had high yield. It will be played a even bigger role and promoted the millet breeding in a new stage. This research is also according to the successful experience in wheat, our purpose is to provide useful information on utilization of male sterility induced by SQ-1 in millet and expanded the range. We induced the male sterility of millet by different dose in SQ-1, and preliminary analysis the result, as follows:1.Xiang gu ,the best stage and dose is 5 kg/ hm2 at eight-leaf stage.(the formation stage to pericardium of pistil),induced male sterility rate 100%.we can achieved above 90% male sterility at the 7 leaf to 8 leaf stage. In the 7 leaf and 4 kg/ hm2; 7 leaf and 5 kg/ hm2; 8 leaf and 3 kg/ hm2; 8 leaf and 4 kg/ hm2; 8 leaf and 5 kg/ hm2, we can achieved above 95% male sterility it explained that in this two stage ,the foxtail millet is sensitive of SQ-1; in the 9 leaf stage ,the male sterility is sharp declined, it also explained that the best stage is went. But in this stage, with the SQ-1 dose amplified, the male sterility is a litter rose.2.Wu jiu zhua ruan gu ,the best stage and dose is 5 kg/ hm2 at seven-leaf stage. induce -d male sterility rate 95.85%.In the nine different stage and dose groups, the male sterility is rose with the dose increased in every stage. But in the 9 leaf stage, at the same deal ,the male sterility is declined ,it also explained that the best stage is went.3.Huang jin gu, the best stage and dose is 5 kg/ hm2 at nine-leaf stage. induced male sterility rate 87.59%; but the whole result is not good enough, in nine leaf stage, with the SQ-1 dose amplified, the male sterility is rose and the result is obviously, we conjectured the best stage is behind the 9 leaf stage and need more research.4.Discussion the antioxidase of CAT,SOD,POD activity ,its have diverse decrease by SQ-1 in the three different of pollen development stage, we conjecture the pollen abortion is relate to the energy metabolism suffocated ,it need more research.5.Thorough investigation of male sterility rate every millet spikelet by SQ-1,although the male sterility rate is high, but the seed setting rate is low, so, it difficult to achieved cross breeding in large area. About this, it is a bottleneck to heterosis in millet cross seed manufacture. Especially the parents or germ plasm resources of millet, that the glume opening degree and anther exposed are excellent by SQ-1. We should accumulation, creation and study. In addition, as a chemical castration tool by SQ-1, it can improved the efficient and enlarged the free hybrid; at the same time, it can accelerated the new breed, apolegamy, and save the money, material resources.
