Completely testing for machining and bongding properties of two varieties rubber wood has been carried out, which will provide theoretical basis and technical information in exploiting the value-added of rubber wood products.Machining properties testing was based on the standards of ASTM D1666-87 (Reapproved 2004) (Standard Methods for Conducting Machining Tests of Wood and Wood-Based Materials) and national forestry standard (Methods for Evaluating Machining Properties of Wood) revision opinion draft, and make some adjustments on test parameters according to the lab equipment and production practice. Six machining properties of two varieties rubber wood and Guanzhong locust (planing, sanding, shaping, boring, mortising and turning) have been mainly studied. Machining defects were classified to rank each sample's property. The study shows:(1) Two varieties rubber wood and Guanzhong locust have excellent machining properties. The compositive marks (total 50 cents) of machining properties were as follows: rubber woodâ… 40 cents, rubber woodâ…¡34cents, Guanzhong locust 38 cents. Rubber woodâ… has the best machining properties, next is Guanzhong locust, both them were bettet than rubber woodâ…¡, but overall, all of them have excellent machining properties.(2) During each machining test, two varieties rubber wood have good planing property (3.67 and 3.53), other properties were excellent. Guanzhong locust have good turning property (3.96), other properties were excellent. In practice, directional processing could be carried out according to their machining properties. Rubber wood could be generally used to produce high value-added wood products.For bonding property test, Orthogonal experimental design was used to research the influence on wood bonding strength from four factors (adhesive, unit pressure, pressure time and glue spread). According to measure wood bongding shear strength, poor analysis and variance analysis on the test data, the study found the best craft combination treatment, which would make two varieties rubber wood have best bonding property. The study shows: (3) For the bonding property test, two varieties rubber wood had similar bonding property, and their best craft combination treatment was A3B2C1D2: use API adhesive, unit pressure 2.0 MPa, pressure time 20 min, glue spread 200 g/m2. According to variance analysis, the confidence interval of wood shear strength under the best craft combination treatment were as follows: rubber woodâ… was (5.91, 11.37) MPa and rubber woodâ…¡was (6, 11.82) MPa.
