In higher plants sucrose is the major form in which carbohydrate is transported from photosynthetic source tissues to sink tissues, and its subsequent cleavage in the sink tissues is the first step for utilization of the photoassimilate in various metabolic pathways. Sucrose is cleaved in vivo either by sucrose synthase (Sus).Sus catalyzes the reversible conversion of sucrose and UDP into UDP-glucoseand fructose. There is considerable evidence to indicate that Sus plays a major role(s) in metabolism in a number of different growth processes within a variety of sink tissues. Typically, Sus activity correlates with sink activity of various carbohydrate storage organs and growing sink tissues, Sus is also proposed to supply UDP-glucose for cellulose synthesis in the cell wall. The current work confirms that these six genes comprise the entire rice Sus gene family. Sus transcripts were detected in a wide range of tissues and at different developmental stages, indicating that Sus is involved in numerous and diverse growth processes in the rice plant.Rice is one of the most important food crops in the world as well as in China. Based on the progress of whole genome sequencing and rapidly development of biotechnology, rice has become a model plant for monocot cereal genome research and molecular breeding. So, it can provide a way to solve increasingly clash between population and plough by doing some research on the output, mature period and quality of rice. Therefore more and more research are carried on the function of the gene and develop new species which can be harvested earlier and have more trophic value.Because the sus gene gamily can be expressed on many organs of the plant, but the exact location and function are still unknown. So in this work OsSUS2 and OsSUS3 GUS-promotor carrirers were congstructed, which wewe transformed into the rice, and we obtained some positive plants; To confirm the locations of proteins, GFP carriers wew also contructed; In order to do research on the funection of the proteins, RNAi carriers were contructed, but due to the limitation of the time, we had not got the positive plants. This wok has done some basic research on the function of the sucrose synthase and can provide a new way to improve the output of the rice.
