This research was conducted with Monopterus albus to study the effect of plant extracts which the main extract was from the grape seed. The trail had 3 groups, which supplied with 0%,2%,4%plant extracts. After feeding 102-d, determined the rate of weight gain(WGR), feed coefficient rate (FCR), muscle, digestive enzymes, glucose, triglyceride, cholesterol, glutamic-oxalacetictransaminease, glutamic-pyruvictransaminease, total protein, SOD and complement component. At the same time determined criteria of water quality, observing artificial aquatic mat whether it had the role of water quality improvement. The results showed:there were no differences on the survival rate within these groups (P> 0.05). The feed conversion rate and the weight gain ratio enhanced with the additions of plant extracts were compared with control group, it was the highest with 2%dose group which could raise the feed efficiency(P<0.05). there were no significantly influences on the Monopterus albus hepatosomatic indexs and viscerosomatic index among all groups(P> 0.05), but 2%dose group of the hepatosomatic indexs was lowest. The addition of plant extracts could increase muscle protein, the fat and ash, all dose groups had the differences in improving the muscle quality but not obvious (P>0.05); The moisture content determination showed that there were no significant difference with control group but had a lower tendency. The effects on blood index of plant extracts compared with control group were as follows: 2%dose group had significantly incresed the GOT, GPT, total protein and reduced triglyceride and total cholesterol (P<0.05); dose group of 4%could increse the GOT, GPT obviously and also had significantly role in reducing blood glucose and triglyceride (P<0.05), but it was not significant to increase total protein with the control group (P> 0.05). The digestive enzymes test showed that all of the dose groups could affect the activity of digestive enzymes, all dose groups could obviously increase amylase and lipase activity (P <0.05). Plant extracts had significant effect on improving immune function and antioxidant levels of all dose groups, the C3,C4 and SOD of Monopterus albus were significantly increased (P<0.05) compared with the control. Confirmed by this study, the suitability addition of plant extracts was 2%. Plant extracts could be used as feed additions in the Monopterus albus aquaculture industry which had good prospects. After test water quality of Monopterus albus pond by five months found which added the forage (artificial aquatic mat) had improved of its total nitrogen, ammonia nitrogen, nitrite, dissolved oxygen. The total nitrogen, ammonia nitrogen and nitrite were respectively reduced 4.33 mg/L,0.52 mg/L,0.45 mg/L; dissolved oxygen raised 20.96%. The trial results confirmed artificial aquatic mat could improve water quality obviously.
