It proposes a outer rotor permanent magnet brushless DC motor based on theperformance requires of roller bed, whose structure and dimension is designed byelectromagnetic road method. It accounts the performance of the motor by finite elementanalysis. It optimizes the design of the motor by adjusting the main dimension of the motor.Firstly, It introduces the background of the topics, the status of driving motor in rollerbed and brushless DC motor operating principle. Inevitably, ripple torque exists in brushlessDC motor because of the operation principle and its special structure, and this is an importantdisadvantage that restricts its widely application. Ripple torque can cause vibration, noise andhigher temperature, which make great influence on the performance of roller bed. The resultsat home and abroad show that magnet height and air gap are so important factors to thecomprehensive performance of the motor that adopting several optimization measures isnecessary.Secondly, due to the symmetry of the motor, the region of interest for finite elementanalysis is1/4of the whole motor cross section.2-D Delaunay triangulation based on VisualC++is used in the region. The static characteristics of the motor are deduced through a FEMprogram developed by ourselves.Lastly, it comes to the static characteristics of the motor about no-load and load. Itanalyses the main relations between the structure and performance. Its analysis proved the accuracy of the software, and established the foundation for futurework. It has a complete way to estimate size by electromagnetic road, and to calculate byfinite element method. In a word, the design way is mature and effective.
