Now submersible progressing cavity pump (SPCP) is one of the major equipments for oil extraction in the oil field, it can effectively exploit crude oil which has high viscosity and contains a lot of sand, while its most electric drive system is completed with asynchronous motor and reducing device now, so shortcomings of high energy consumption and low efficiency exist.Obviously, this doesn't meet the requirement of energy-saving development in society.This paper presents the status and future development trends and requirements of motors for SPCP now. Compared with traditional asynchronous motor drive system, permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) directly driving SPCP can satisfy people's requirements better. Because of the special environment in the well, the general slender structure motor can be separated to many unit motors, and the unit motors are distinguishingly designed to achieve their connect. The unit motors can exist alone and be arbitrary combination, which all run as a big motor at the same time, the number of unit motors can be changed according to the need of torque. The design solves the problems of manufacture, operation and maintenance of slender structure motor. On this basis, the program of electromagnetism calculation of direct-drive PMSM for SPCP can be made and debugged by Matlab software.Modeling, simulation and analysis of the electromagnetic field of direct-drive PMSM for SPCP can be made in use of Ansoft software, rationality and feasibility of the design is proved. Simulation analysis of stress intensity and deformation displacement distribution of the shaft can be made by Ansys software, which checks that the stiffness and strength of the shaft meets the requirements, and the rationality of the shaft in this design is proved. The temperature simulation of direct-drive PMSM for SPCP can be made by Ansys , from the temperature distribution we can see the rise of temperature is low.The proposed new struction of direct-drive PMSM for SPCP has mang characteristics such as high flexibility, easy to maintain, and it can meet the requirements of in-well environmen and be widely applied to pipe motor system and submersible progressing cavity pump system.
