Nowadays the power supply security for the deep sea electromechanical equipment has become a research hotspot. The traditional power transmission mode gradually exposes many serious disadvantages when it is used in deep sea. Based on the principle of electromagnetic induction, the contactless power transmission (CLPT) system discussed in this paper can supply power energy for the equipments without any electrical connection between the power source and the loading, so it is better adapted than the traditional system for deep sea application. There are three parts of the CLPT system discussed in this paper:the coupler, the mechanical container and circuit simulation.Part one disscussed the relationship between the magnetic core structure and the coupler performance parameters, such as self inductance, mutual inductance and coupling coefficient. According to the special application of this system, a new magnetic resistance model was constructed based on the principle of contactless power transmission. The results through theoretical deducing, simulation and the experimental measurement were compared and analyzed, and proved the validity of the new model. According to the new model, the structure of the magnetic core is optimized to improve the transmission efficiency.Part two analysed the stresses of element to calculate the thickness of the cylinder and the cover. Meanwhile, the container's mechanical strength and stability in the deep sea were checked. Suitable sealing mode was chosed, and it's sealability was checked by ANSYS software. The container's mechanical structure was designed by AutoCAD and Solidworks software. Finally, the container was processed out, and used in the experiments. In part three, the circuit of this system was investigated by its models of principle, simulation, and experiment. The resonance frequency of this system was discussed both by theoretical calculation and circuit simulation, and the models were validated by experiment after sealing encapsulation. The method in this part can simplify the design process of CLPT systemThis system was tested in Qiandao Lake in Oct 2011, with the water depth was 20 meters. It was connected to 50V dc supply and transmited power up to 50 W, with 85% transmission efficiency.
