Var equilibrium is one of the basic conditions for guaranteeing power system stability. Var compensation is important measure to ensure var equilibrium of system. By now, Static Var Compensator (SVC) has been abroadly applied to compensate reactive power. Simultaneously, time-delay is important problem in power network steadily operating. So, it is necessary that study improved control theory for time-delay system of SVC.In this thesis, a new backstepping approach is suggested for time-delay system of static var compensateor. The transient stability problem of a single machine infinite bus system is studied. Based on the model of a single machine infinite bus system, considering time-delay influence in SVC responding, the time-delay system of SVC is built. By applying the backstepping approach, the time-delay controller of SVC and adaptive robust controller with unknown parameter are designed. The problem of restraining disturb for time-delay system is resolved. At the same time, H∞controller is designed for the system with uncertain parameter. The transient stability of SVC time-delay system is researched on by applying a modified adaptive backstepping approach. It includes the class-k functions, so as to adjust the convergence rate and improve transient performance of SVC system.The backstepping controller of this thesis preserves useful nonlinearities, effectively resolves the time-delay problem in the process of static var compensator response and guarantees angle stability and frequency stability. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed method.
