The electricity is the foundation of modern civilization and national economy, holding an important position in the industry and civil living conditions. Along with the rapid economic development, power demand is growing fast. In order to solve the problems rising by the constant growth of power load and uneven distribution of energy resources, larger-scale power system is improved to meet the need of power supply reliability and mutual support.However, with the development of interconnected power grid, expansion of the grid scale becomes faster, the shortcomings of the larger power system show up. Especially the fault current level keeps rising, which threats the safety and operation stability of large-scale interconnected power grid greatly. Short circuit current has become an urgent problem of grid security, and how to limit short-circuit current becomes the most outstanding problem of the electrical power grid operation in recent years. It is one of the main bottlenecks that restricts further development of power grid.FCL becomes one of the most popular research project of limiting SCC (short-circuit current). However, due to the number of sites which exceeds standard SCC is often more than expected. Those sites distribute broadly. With the complexity of power grid topology and the nonlinear time-varying operation characteristic, it becomes very complex to deside short-circuit current restrictions with engineering experience, it lacks good effect evaluation indexes that measures SCC limiting effect. Therefore three effect evaluation math-models that take exceeding-bid sites distribution with a wide range and economic cost into consideration are proposed to measure global SCC limiting effect. The physical significance is expressed well through the mathematical models.According to the application characteristic of FCL, model of particle swarm swim is re-arranged, which takes the proposed indexes as the optimization mathematical model of FCL location-selecting configuration. Then a global optimization algorithm is formed to select optimal location of FCL in large power system with certain voltage level, it is proved to be effective by testing examples. The optimal location-selecting configaration of Guangdong power grid in 2015 is concluded with help of the proposed algorithm, which confirms adaptability of the proposed algorithm in large scale power grid.
