LED has many benefits compared to traditional light source, such as long lifetime, high luminous efficiency and small size, and it is widely used in indicate lamp, screen display, backlight and view lamp. As a new generation illumination source, it has a fast growing market size in illumination area. However, there are some problems in LED lamp design.Optical and thermal design are key problems in LED application in illumination, we do some research in such areas and design some products. We use geometrical Rung-Kutta method and weighted average method in freeform surface lens solving, and improve total uniformity in illumination. New surface generating method is used in LED lens model. COB package is now the mainstream package mode in high power LED, we design a reflector for down light uniform illumination using COB LED. In thermal design, the accuracy of simulation software EFD is confirmed by experiment and then a radiator of LED tunnel lamp is designed. Simulation results of outside surface temperature are accurate compared with experiment results, but those of internal temperature are not. The radiator is designed according to free convection relational expression, especially we use through hole to make the lamp more cool. Finally, thermal spreading resistance in LED package is analyzed, and design optimization is done.
