Shenyang is a windy city. With the enhancement of people's consciousness about environmental protection and health, research on wind field around buildings has social and real sense to improve city building wind environment, raise the comfort for residence, and control the air pollution problem. The study about wind environment become the one of factors in urban planning and structure design.At present, field measurement, wind tunnel test and numerical simulation are major methods to study the wind field around buildings. Using atmosphere boundary layer wind tunnel test to study the wind actions on buildings has a history of more than sixty years. It plays an important role in the research of wind engineering. But because of inherent deficiencies, wind tunnel experimental is difficult to applied extensively in engineering practicality. The numerical simulation was brought forward with the development of Computational Fluid Dynamics and the computer science in the 80'th, only twenty years ago. It became the hotspot in the research of wind engineering since it was born. With the sustained development of turbulence model, as well as the surprising advancement of software, hardware and computation methods, the numerical simulation technique to the wind tunnel tests has gradually become mature, and it will have been the strongest means in the wind engineering. We gained wind velocity and wind pressure distribution by means of numerical simulation, with this predict good and bad of the city planning and designing, and put forward the improving project, make design more reasonable, raised the quality and efficiencies of design.The question of wind effects on buildings belongs to the flow around bluff body. The flow-field around the buildings is highly complicated, which is filled with series of complicated movements, such as separation, circulation, vortices etc. In this paper, start off the practice of engineering, based on a great deal of the data and literatures, the principal theories and calculation methods on the computational wind engineering are summarized at first. The more details of researche are discussed such as flow area computation, grid, boundary condition, turbulence model, and calculation parameters with regard to the numerical simulation of wind field around buildings. The actual physical environment of residential buildings is simulated based on FLUENT, taking areas in Shenyang as the researching object, adopting the subarea scheme to partition computational area, handing the near wall faces with the standard wall function method, using the standard k-εmodel to compute the steady wind flow field. Distributive characters of wind presure, streamlines and wind velocity under various circumstance are gained and discussed in detail. Some proposals for improving the comfort of wind environment are presented at the same time.
