As one kind of the most common power actuators in the hydraulic transmission system, hydraulic cylinder is widely used in engineering machinery and mining machinery. The performance of the hydraulic cylinder directly affects the performance and service life of mechanical equipment. Therefore, it is important to optimize structure, improve service life and increase economic benefit using finite element analysis of hydraulic cylinder.Firstly, the background and significance of this subject were introduced in this paper, and various researches of hydraulic cylinder were also discussed. At the same time, a review was expatiated for the research status both at home and abroad of hydraulic support and finite element method. Afterwards, starting with the mechanical model of hydraulic cylinder, all kinds of traditional mechanical models and analysis methods of hydraulic cylinder were deeply researched and discussed. And then, the flexivity, striking angle and moment of flexion of hydraulic cylinder were calculated using theoretical mechanics principle. The strength of hydraulic cylinder was checked, and the ultimate bearing capacity was analyzed.Secondly, take the hydraulic cylinder of ZY3600/12/27.5type hydraulic support as an example, and the three-dimensional model of hydraulic cylinder (pillar) was established using three-dimensional modeling software of Pro/E, which provided solid model for the next finite element analysis. And then, the stress and stability analysis of hydraulic cylinder (pillar) were proceeded using software of ANSYS, gained the deformation and stress diagram, and the strength and stability were checked. Simultaneously, by the constant section method, carried on the strut bracing stability theory computation to the balance ram, and compared the ANSYS analysis results with the calculation results, the two results kept conformity; it shows the validity of the finite element analysis.At last, the whole research commitment was summarized. And the research foreground of the analysis of hydraulic cylinder with finite element method was also given.
