Vacuum circuit breaker is played an important role in medium voltage switch fields, with more and more attention paid to environmental protection by the people, production enterprise and scientific research institutions do vigorous research for vacuum circuit breaker in field of extinguished arc, product design and processing technology, to replace the SF6 circuit breaker which is widely used in the high voltage switch fields. With vacuum circuit breaker toward the direction in intelligent, high reliability, high voltage and large current, the aim of paper is to design 126kV vacuum circuit breaker with new motor operate mechanism, in the electric properties parts, it mainly consider insulate and temperature rise problem, in the mechanical properties, it mainly consider opening and closing characteristics. And some improvement measures for vacuum circuit breaker are put up in this paper. The main study content in this paper as follows:First, the finite element method is used to calculate the electric filed and temperature filed in the vacuum arcing chamber, the structure of vacuum arcing chamber which influence the electric field distribution is analyzed. At the same time, some measures are put up to improve the potential distribution. According the calculation results, it can be known whether the vacuum arcing chamber design could satisfy insulation requirement and temperature rise requirement.Second, the virtual prototype of vacuum circuit breaker with new motor operating mechanism and its mathematical model is established by virtual prototyping technology to simulate the switching on/off processes. Meanwhile, the experiments of switching on/off of the vacuum circuit breaker are made, results from experiments show that whether the motor operating mechanism is rational as an operating mechanism for vacuum circuit breaker, contrastive analysis on results from experiments and simulation shows that the virtual prototyping technology is very appropriate for designing the vacuum circuit breaker.Finally, the 126kV vacuum circuit breaker with new motor operating mechanism is designed and the virtual prototype is established, the motor process and the counterforce in the vacuum circuit breaker side are calculated. According to the mechanical properties requirements, the suitable operating mechanism is selected and used by contrast analysis. Meanwhile, parametric design is used in the vacuum circuit breaker virtual prototype model, the harm of the contact bounce and the influence factors of contact bounce are analyzed, and some measures to reduce the contactor bounce are put forward; the quality of transmission mechanism and the parameters of contacts spring which influence the motion characteristics of vacuum circuit breaker are analyzed,the design variables which has bigger influence is selected to improve average close brake speed and just-open speed to improve the circuit breaker.
