The rising of wind power penetration will bring influences like the increasing pressure of peak load regulation and frequency control of power system, the increasing burden of reactive power, the voltage fluctuating, the increasing of technical requirements for long distance power transmission and operating costs due to the features of wind power in the utilization of wind power. However, the pumped storage has superiorities like fast response to load change, flexible regulation and accident reserve.The connected system of wind power and pumped storage can improve the utilization of wind power and reduce the impacts of high wind penetration on the grid which will maximize the use of wind power. This paper does the following researches focusing on the stability and control of wind power and pumped storage system.The research background, meaning and basic concept about the wind power and pumped storage system are briefly introduced first. The recent researches by foreign and domestic scholars are highlighted.Second, the model of wind power and pumped storage system and the power flow calculation are researched. The wind turbine, shaft, pitch angle control and asynchronous generator are modeled respectively in the wind power model. The pumped storage system models the generating condition and pumping condition respectively.Then, the detailed eigenvalue and state variables participation factors are analyzed on the infinite system with wind power, the wind power pumped storage system on generating condition and pumping condition which will assess the impact on the power system stability. The static and transient responses of wind power and pumped storage system are also researched when modeling the wind speed steps and short circuit fault.Last, the pitch angle controller and pitch angle watergate controller are designed by the theories of linear optimal control and sliding mode variable structure control respectively. The simulations on the infinite system with wind power and the wind power pumped storage system prove the both controllers have good stability control.
