Currently, it is commonly used to be pseudo-static method for the calculation of earth pressure behind retaining wall, and it only considers the role of horizontal seismic force. The resultant force which calculated by pseudo-static method is closer to the reality, but this method cann't calculate the distribution of earth pressure and the location of resultant force. It assumes that the soil behind the retaining wall is rigid which has a big gap with the actual. The pseudo-dynamic approach just overcomes the drawbacks. Based on the basic assumptions of the pseudo-dynamic approach, this article carried out research in the following areas:(1) Transtation reverse the filling. Considering the effect of amplification of seismic accelerations is and using the pseudo-dynamics method, the seismic active earth pressure coefficient, the resultant force of seismic active earth pressure and the distribution of active earth pressure on a rigid retaining wall supporting cohesive backfill are respectively obtained. Time and phase changes within the backfill are also considered. On this basis, the most unfavorable conditions are investigated by an optimization algorithm. Then this paper discusses the effects of horizontal and vertical seismic accelerations, internal fiction angle, wall friction angle, retaining wall angle and amplification on the inclination of the slip surface on active earth pressure coefficient, critical depth, the location of resultant force and the distribution of active earth pressure.(2) Transtation towards the filling. Considering the effect of amplification of seismic accelerations, the pseudo-dynamics method was used to obtain the formulae of seismic passive earth pressure coefficient, the resultant force of seismic passive earth pressure, the distribution of passive earth pressure and the application point of the resultant which was varying with time. On this basis, the effects of amplification factor of seismic accelerations and the seismic predominant period on the inclination of the most dangerous slip surface, passive earth pressure coefficient and the distribution of passive earth pressure were investigated.(3)Rotation about the base.
