Yulin University, a higher learning institute with profound culture and rich academic atmosphere, boasts its cultural as well as natural environment on campus.Objectives:With the study on the planning of greenbelts on campus, this paper intends to bring the limited space into full play. By this case study of the greenbelt planning on the campus of Yulin University, this paper intends to find a way to sustainably develop the greenbelts on university campuses, in order to create a peaceful and beautiful campus where human and nature can interact in harmony.Methodology:Methodologies employed include: field investigation; case study; interdisciplinary research; and archival research.Findings:The greenbelts on campus are of various shapes, including bulk, ring, wedge, strip and irregular ones. Methods such as orderly and natural as well as hybrid greenbelt planning are all employed. And combination of point, line and plane is applied to the overall arrangement of the greenbelts. The university sticks to the principle of sustainable development throughout the process of planning, in order to build a creative and environmentally-friendly eco-campus. It also makes the most of the landscape to build a campus with poetic atmosphere. It takes advantage of the combination of static composition and dynamic layout as well. By scientific planning of the greenbelts, the university successfully built a high-quality campus with aesthetical, practical and educational functions. The contrast between the whole and the parts, dimension scale, balance and rhythm were all taken into consideration during the planning. The greenbelt planning on campus also exhibits the university's culture, scientific study as well as artistic beauty. Influenced by the local culture, politics and economy, it also established its unique characteristics. Besides, the planning emphasizes the atmosphere created by the greenbelt, so as to stimulate emotional resonance, imagination and creativity of professors as well as students. So greenbelt planning plays an important role in creating natural and academic environment as well as poetic atmosphere on campus.Conclusions: Influenced by the natural conditions of Yulin, the greenbelts on campus are characterized by the local trees and flowers. Durable foreign species are introduced to make the eco-system on campus more diversified and stable. In this new century, when more requirements are attached to talents, we cannot afford to ignore the scientific planning of greenbelts, for it not only helps build eco-campus, but also reduce air pollution. To build and beautify the campus is an integral part of the university's undertakings. As school culture is a kind of spiritual atmosphere, the campus reflects not only the image but also the culture of a university. A beautiful campus has incredible influence on the students, which cannot be substituted by any lecture. And a campus, which is beautiful, healthy, colorful and orderly, can have a profound influence on the students'characters.
