Steel cord conveyor belt is the most representative high-strength conveyor belt, suitable for long-distance, large capacity, high speed modern transportation needs. Splice is the weakest link in conveyor system, because its strength is lower than the rated strength of the conveyor and it is often the first place to be damaged. The loss caused by belt conveyor stagnation which is resulted from the damage of steel cord splices is often larger than installing funds. In addition, improving the fatigue strength of splices can help increasing the safety factor of the splices, which is of great significance in reducing the production cost.First the theory of conveyor belt splice strength is researched, and five factors effecting conveyor belt splice's safety are summarized. A brief introduction to the structure of steel cord conveyor belt and its vulcanized joint method is given. The basis for splices series'division is given in the form of formula, and the splice's design type and naming rules are described. According to the simplified model of conveyor belt splice, general mechanical model of steel cord conveyor belt splices is derived.Select the relatively simple structure which is ST1000-type conveyor splices, using ANSYS software modeling and analysis. Rubber element uses two parameters Mooney-Rivlin model, while steel cord uses element SOLID185, and the contact relationship between the rubber element and steel cord is defined at the same time. The analysis results have great agreement with the actual situations, and the error is also within the range.A number of factors affecting the splices strength are analyzed and summarized by finite element method, which include:composition of the rubber, characteristics of the steel cord, tip clearance of the steel cord, gap of the rubber frame, order of splices, type of splices, length of splices, elongation of the conveyor belt and decrease of the grade and so on.Finally, a bench of performance parameters of the conveyor belt is put forward. Basic functions and main components of the bench is described. Detailed experimental methods are made according to the national standards on parameters collecting of the rubber conveyor belt. Sample producing, dynamic load test, static load test, evaluation of results are discussed in detail in the description.
