A new mining crude oil is a mixture of water and gas. It requires measuring the water content and air void of the oil in the process of oil exploitation and sales. There are many ways of measuring the water content and air void of oil. Usingγrays to measure is one of important methods. This paper introduces two methods of measuring the water content and air void of oil usingγrays, the method of transmission and scattering and the method of dual-energy transmission. Also this paper simulates the practical measuring process, verifies the feasibility of the two methods and provides theoretical references for the development of relevant instruments.First, this paper introduces the Monte Carlo method and the general-purpose software based on the Monte Carlo method, MCNP. Monte Carlo method is a stochastic simulation method. Using Monte Carlo method generally needs the following steps. First, we simulate the random phenomena. Secondly, we get the experiment date. Then we analysis and infer the data. Finally, we get the rule of the phenomena and the solution of the question. MCNP is a general-purpose software package which is used to calculate the transportation problem of neutrons, photons and electrons or coupling neutrons, photons and electrons in 3d complex geometric structure. Then, this paper introduces the nuclear physics foundation of measuring the water content and air void of the oil usingγrays, that is the interaction law ofγrays and material and transport processing in MCNP. We mainly expound photoelectric effect, Compton effect, electron pair effect and the absorbing rule ofγrays through material. Meanwhile, we analyze how to deal with them in MCNP.Afterwards, this paper expounds the principle of measuring the water content and air void of oil through the method of transmission and scattering. And this paper verifies the feasibility of the method by the simulating calculation through MCNP. Also, we get the function that is water content and air void of oil about the horizontal transmission counts and vertical scattering counts ofγrays. Finally, this paper expounds the principle of measuring the water content and air void of oil through the method of dual-energy transmission. And this paper verifies the feasibility of the method by the simulating calculation through MCNP. Also, we get the function that is water content and air void of oil about the transmission counts of dual energyγrays...
