Tire pressure and temperature parameters largely determine the car driving safety and economy.The incorrect tire pressure and temperature will reduce tire life and increase fuel consumption,when it get worse, it will cause tire burst and result in the loss of life and property.Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) can moniter the pressure, temperature and other information in the tire automatically, and give an alarm when there is abnormal situation in the tire to prompt the driver to take effective treatment measures to ensure road safety and improve fuel economy.This paper analyzes the international and domestic situation of the development and technology status of TPMS, and in accordance with the market conditions, selects the direct TPMS as the design direction. Then, the paper proposes the function and design requirements of Direct TPMS. According to the request, it determines the system design and performance to be achieved.On this basis, the design synthetically uses the sensor technology, micro-controller technology, wireless communication technology and software technology to build a direct tire pressure monitoring system. The system is composed of tire monitor module and central monitor module. The tire monitor module collects tire status data by sensor and send it to the central monitor wirelessly. After the central monitor receives the data, it processes the data and estimates the tire state.If the state is abnormal, the central monitor will alarm immediately and shows it on the LCD. Meanwhile, for the problem of limited battery of the tire monitor module, this paper puts forward to ways of lowering power consumption from software and hardware and reduce the current consumption by using the wake-up mode.It obviously extends the battery life. Finally, the system function is tested at laboratory conditions,and the results show that the main design specifications of the system meet the design requirements.
