Environmental-Psychology-Based Outdoor Space Research Of Kunming Universities

With the consistent innovation of China's education system, higher education is promoting popularization, with its enrollment enhancing enormously. The university has experienced an unprecedented building boom, in which many new features of campus construction model have presented in this new era. However, with these newly built universities being put into effects and normal teaching operation carried out, many shortcomings of these universities have come into existence. Cultural identity and historical culture have been fading in countless big and empty campuses. Confronting social progress and economical development, strengths and weaknesses of the outdoor spaces in campuses have become a topic of popular concerns. How to build the outdoor spaces of the universities with great humanity in the context of a new era is a significantly focused issue in this paper.This paper, based on psychology, environmental psychology and theory of living environment, actively explores the means of humanistic construction of university campuses in the background of continued expansion, renovation, and combination of the universities. The whole paper can be divided into three sections:First, grasps the issues and introduces questions. Proposes subject of research contents and methods after defining the research background, purpose, significance and the status of domestic and foreign research.Second, the analysis of the problem which consists of three parts:the interpretation of the concept; the review of the expression and criticism of environmental psychology in the evolution of domestic colleges and universities and the descriptions of absence of environmental psychology in the construction of outdoor space of contemporary university campus and psychological needs and behavioral characteristics of the university students.Finally, the proposal of the solution to the problems. Actively explores the constructing strategies of the outdoor space of the universities in Kunming, takes the design of outdoor space in the Chenggong Campus of Kunming Medical College for an example and summarizes its design features and tries to predict the developing trend of the outdoor space of the universities in Kunming.
