Truss string structure is a kind of structure forms, which has been widely applied all over the world these years. It fully utilizes the mechanic properties of arches and cables with bar connecting flexural and compression structural members and tensile members. This paper analysis the latest applications and studies of truss string structure base on the Guangzhou International Convention and exhibition center; and summarizes the research results and aspects to be studied of truss string structure summarize.The finite element analysis program of truss string structure was written by Matlab language. In order to make the structure transfer force reasonably, the nodes were set in heart of truss when programmed; internal force of guy was solved and validated that the guy was only to pull; meanwhile intersecting connections were used in modeling according to the modification guidelines in this paper. The effectiveness of this program were validated by an example shown in this paper.In this paper, optimum design method of truss string structure based on discrete variable was forwarded. First, in order to choose the most unfavorable load condition to optimum design, the load conditions program of truss string structure was written to analysis the displacement and internal force. Second, to make the optimized results can be applied in actual structural design, single-dimensional search algorithm was adopted, member sections were selected in steel material list by using discrete variable, then truss string structure was optimized design. A truss string structure was optimized design by using this method, and the optimum results were contrasted to the original ones, and this text verified the validity of this method. Different span truss string structures were optimized designed by using discrete variable in this paper to provide reference for engineering design.The Fibonacci search method was used to study the relations of the minimum weight and the rise, sag, thickness under different spans; and analyze the influences to the steel quantity. In this paper, the optimal rise, sag and thickness of different spans were searched, and the way to get the optimal rise, sag and thickness was also concluded. In order to enhance the efficiency and get the optimum solution, dynamically region of search was inducted.This paper provides a new way for truss string structure design by presenting the researches of large span discrete variable optimization algorithm and the shape optimization.
