The Research For Renewal Of The Light Roof With Bamboo As Main Material In Xishuangbanna Dai's Houses

The sloping roof is an important architectural feature of Dai's houses. Since the large developed surface area, the consumption of building materials is very huge, except that the common roofing materials also have some defects. So it is necessary to study both economic and environmentally friendly new roofing technology to create conditions for the sustainable development of Dai's houses. And this technology should be easy to be used by the local communities. Bamboo is a kind of fast-growing, renewable green building materials. Supporting with modern bamboo processing techniques, the research on using bamboo as main materials to build the light roof of Dai's houses can promote the progress of roofing technology of Dai's Houses.The paper does systematic study on renewal strategy and appropriate technology for the light roof of Dai's houses. Based on the bamboo's engineering properties, the using principle of different components with several common bamboos in Xishuangbanna was put forword. The paper has combined the new materials and technologies which are closely related to the bamboo structure technology, analyzed of the technical features about some representative bamboo buildings in domestic and foreign, made drawing on the roofing technology of light wood frame construction, presented three kinds of bamboo roof forms, and completed the construction design of the three key joints. For the technology of bamboo roof structure, the paper provided construction suggestions for three different roofing materials and solutions for the fire prevention, heat insulation and ventilation of the light roofing.Dai's people have the tradition of built houses by themselves. In this paper, all of the structural schemes and the technologies are based on fully accounted and respected this tradition. As the main building materials of the Dai's houses light roofing technology, bamboo is get from the community, so the technology is easy to be mastered by the community craftsmen. It can be expected that the improvement and promotion of these technologies will not only improved the living quality of the Dai's people, reduced the consumption of timber, cement, steel and other building materials, but also achieved good social, environmental and ecological benefits.
