Suspendome is a new kind of hybrid space structure system. Because of its reasonable force flow and large stiffness, it can cross a more larger space. Up to now, suspendome is used in more than 20 projects at home and abroad .The plane view of most of them are round and only a few are elliptical. The mechanical properties of the flat elliptical suspendome structure will be analyzed in this paper on the base of Baodi gymnasium in Tianjin.In this paper, the pre-stress optimization analysis, static analysis, stability analysis, dynamic analysis and the whole structure analysis of the suspendome are carried on by the finite element software MIDASGen and ANSYS, in order to drawing various mechanical properties of the structure.First of all, structure selection is introduced in this paper. The structure is selected as suspendome by comparative analysis of the behavior of suspendome and double-layer dome. After comparision of different rise-span ratio, the rise of the structure is determined as 8m at last.Detailed analysis are carried on after concrete form of the structure was determined. The static properties of the steel roof is studied on at first considering the influences of the temperature effect to get the maximum stress and deformation. Secondly, eigen-buckling analysis and nonlinear buckling analysis is carried out to identify instability mode and critical load factor to know the stable bearing capability of the structure. Finally, The dynamic performance including the natural vibration properties and the seismic response of the structure is analyzed.In addition, The behavior of the whole structure including the steel roof and lower concrete structure is analyzed in order to knowing the mechanical properties of the structure to compare with the structural behaviors of the steel roof. These are standardized to be applied directly to practical engineering.
