Small gasoline engines are widely used on gardening machines, agricultural machines, commercial and family backup power sources, also in industry, military and science equipment. In the past few years, as the demand for vertical shaft engines grew rapidly, users increased, and the start ability requirement also raised, especially the starting force became one of the most concerns. This article relates to a vertical shaft small gasoline engine-LC1P70FA, which usually come up with kicking back issues. Operators may get hurt when kicking back happens. Even more, people who experienced the kicking back would fear to start an engine again, especially for general user. Therefore, the research of eliminating the kicking back while starting engine is very important. This article expands on the theory of how kicking back happens and adjusting pressure reducer on camshaft to insure the piston passes through top dead center smoothly. This will eliminate kicking back issues completely, and have been evaluated in practice. Also, this article relates to the research of how to reduce the starting force: Decreasing the frictional resistance when engine running by lowering the thickness of piston rings; Decreasing the compress ratio and enlarge the angle of ignition advance for 2 degrees to improve the combustion and adjusting the dimension of reducer to release more pressure for smooth starting. After optimal combination, the starting force is successfully reduced from 220N upper to 140N below.
