Earthquake is one of serious damage natural disasters. Modern structural forms are various and the forms of earthquake damages are complex, aseismic performance of different structure forms become the focus of research. Meanwhile, ground motion contains three translational motion components and three rotational components. The observations of strong earthquake mostly obtained translational motion components, rotational components are mostly indirectly acquired by translational motion components. The aseismic analysis under multidimensional seismic actions which considering torsional component is without complete research system.Thus, this paper established symmetrical, asymmetric rectangular column RC structure, studies the response characteristics of structures under three conditions of wenchuan and EI seismic wave (bidirectional and torsional seismic action, bidirectional seismic action and unidirectional seismic action).1. Use MATLAB software in frequency-domain method, acquire torsional component of the seismic waves which wenchuan wolong station obtained in wenchuan earthquake and American EI waves through the fourier transform of corresponding translational motion components.2. Establish the entity model of two structures in ANSYS, research on time-history analysis of models under three conditions of two seismic waves. Analyse mainly in displacement, force, moment and plastic strain etc., contrast the reaction speciality of corner column, side column and center column. In addition, analyse plastic reaction of two special structures.3. Through comparison of three conditions, the reaction of structures in multidimensional seismic actions considering torsional component is significant higher than unidirectional seismic action, torsional component should not be ignored. The earthquake performance of asymmetric structure is worse than symmetric one, the bottom of structure is weak layer, corner column is more affected in multidimensional seismic actions, and these parts should be taken more attention in design. And two points on improving seismic mechanism of structures are suggested.To sum up, by seismic response analysis of the symmetrical and asymmetric frame structures under the three conditions, research on aseismic performances of two structures, provides valuable reference for the aseismic design and analysis of frame structure.
