Due to the flexibility, cheap raw material and easy fabrication, the organic polymer solar cell attracted more attention as a potential source of green renewable. But the low conversion efficiency and weak stability of these organic polymer solar cells limit their feasibility for commercial use.In this study, we have explored the fabrication process of the polymer solar cells consisting of P3HT as a p-type semiconducting polymer and PCBM as an n-type semiconductor. The experimental conditions and the particular problems should be paid to have been investigated.The ITO/P3HT:PCBM/Ag polymer solar cell was fabricated firstly, and the absorbing spectra characteristics and the photovoltaic performance of these polymer solar cells has been studied in detail. The effects of the adulteration ratio of P3HT/ PCBM in the active layer, the thickness of the active layer, the addition of PEDOT:PSS buffer layer, the thermal annealing on the polymer solar cell were investigated detailedly. At the same time, the influence mechanism has been discussed. The optimal fabrication processes have been confirmed according to the photovoltaic performance of these polymer solar cells.Moreover, contributed to the advantages of the inorganic nano-material, such as the absorption in ultraviolet range and the wide band gap, the inorganic nano-particles of TiO2 and ZnO act as the optical spacer have been introduced into ITO/P3HT:PCBM/Ag polymer solar cell. The fabrication processes and the photovoltaic characteristics of these inorganic nano-crystal/polymer solar cells have been explored and investigated. The influence of the nano-particles of TiO2 and ZnO to the absorbing characteristics and the photovoltaic performance of these polymer solar cells with modified layer were investigated respectively. The effect mechanism of TiO2 and ZnO nano-particles on the photovoltaic performance has been investigated. The further improvement in the photovoltaic performance aspect of these polymer solar cells has been discussed too.
