As one of the most important mechanical transmissions, the gear transmission is widely applied to various fields, such as aerospace, automobile and textile industry and so on. While the vibration of gear could not be avoid, as the result of the transmission process and fabrication tolerance. The vibration problem is highly needed to be deal with to meet the higher demand of modern techniques on gear transmission. In this paper, an analysis method of gear body vibration is built, with relative theories and software, such as UG, VB, MATLAB and ANSYS etc. The influences of damping form and parameters on gear body vibration are also researched.Firstly, the vibration generation and reduction of gear transmission are researched with the vibration theories, by taking the gear transmission system as an elastic system of mechanical vibration. Relative existing theories are used to study the influences of gear parameters on vibration. Three kinds of common vibration reduction constructions are chosen for heavy duty gear, which are free damping construction, restrained damping construction and filling damping construction. MATLAB software is employed to calculate the structural damping value of the system with these three kinds of damping constructions.Secondly, UG software is applied to 3 D parameterized modeling of the gear and gear body with and without the damping constructions. Developments of UG software are carried out to meet the further need of subsequent analyses and simplify the design process. Finally, the gear is simplified to a cylinder with the diameter of gear graduation circle. ANSYS software is used to analysis the dynamic characteristics of the gear and gear body. The results show that the inherent properties of these two structures are almost the same, which means that this kind of simplification is available. ANSYS/LS Dyna is employed to simulate the gear movement, obtaining the dynamic contact force in the transmission process. The contact force is further applied as the excitation force to simplified gear body. Then the vibrations of gear body with and without damping structures are studied. The dynamics analysis platform of gear transmission is finished in this analysis process, which greatly facilitates the design of heavy duty gear.
