With the world economic integration and national development of foreign trade, the port is experiencing a stage of function expansion, improvement and steady development. It urgently requires the development of transportation in port so that a good condition can be provided for the port functioning. So far, there are no standard criteria for the port road development. In practice, the construction department regularly refers to urban road construction standard. However, there is a big difference between the traffic in urban transportation and port transportation such as vehicle type, trip destination and driver behavior. It is necessary to design a particular setting for port traffic.So far, there is no existing standard for road access. It is admitted that there are excessive and inappropriate road access which weakens the safety and effectiveness of traffic. In our study, we discussed spacing between driveways and driveway throatlengths setting. Micro simulation was created to obtain an appropriate spacing between driveways and driveway throat lengths setting. This simulation was based on port traffic, with reference of road entrance policy of U.S. Major work was listed as following:First, port road traffic characters were analyzed based on focusing the particular vehicle type, driver and traffic flow character. The simulation model integrated vehicle generation model, vehicle running model and traffic organization model. In addition, parameters in the model were determined based on the investigation of port. V-Box software was used for analysis. The proposed simulation model was recognized as a good reflection of port traffic.Secondly, port driveway throat length was investigated using the proposed simulation tool. Some experiments were designed to determine the appropriate driveway throat length. An approach that can obtain appropriate driveway throat length is reach using the simulation method.Thirdly, road intersection spacing was investigated. Three different experiments were designed for analysis. An approach for obtaining road intersection spacing was determined.Lastly, we summarized the research results, and show future direction.
